Our Vision

Where ministry meets the people with their strengths as well as their needs, Palmetto Work Community Development Corporation (Palmetto Works) offers a partnering hand through Asset Based Community Development.

Palmetto Works is a not for profit, faith-based ministry headquartered in Conway, SC. Palmetto Works launched in 2012 as an outreach of the Palmetto Baptist Missionary Church under the continued leadership of Rev. Cheryl Moore Adamson.

The goal of the ministry to is to come together with people of all ages, with a special heart for African-American children, adolescents and young adults, to share with them a path forward.

Through partnerships with local and state institutions and generous donations from the community, ministry partners, and various foundations, Palmetto Works operates and manages Palmetto Kids Music & Arts Academy, the Palmetto Youth Leadership Academy, and CHOPS Produce, a small produce market and healthy juice bar.

Funding is paramount for the growth of the ministry and all who are willing to give are asked to search their hearts for ways to help.

Reverend Cheryl Moore Adamson

The Truth Shall Set You Free

Freedom for all within her reach and circle of influence to prosper, freedom to share the Gospel, and the freedom to do good works in her community are the driving forces behind Rev. Cheryl Moore Adamson and her ministry Palmetto Works.

A lifelong resident of historic Conway, SC, founded in 1732, a small community outside of nearby bustling Myrtle Beach, Adamson knows the struggles of many of its residents, and has a particular heart for people in the African-American community.

As the founding pastor of Palmetto Missionary Baptist Church in Conway, for more than 15 years Adamson, along with a dedicated board and staff, has directed her focus on serving the needs of her community. She was among the first black students to graduate from Conway High School and also the University of South Carolina. After receiving a BS in Science, she went on to achieve a Masters in Health Education. She became South Carolina’s first HIV/AIDS educator, and eventually went on to study at Duke Divinity School, preparing her for a life of ministry work.

At Palmetto Works Community Development Corporation, a faith-based nonprofit organization, Adamson’s mission is to help children, adolescents and adults thrive in age and developmentally appropriate work.  She has received countless awards, accolades and recognition from community, statewide, and national leaders including the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development (SCACED) Civic Leadership Award, the McCall Racial Justice Trailblazer Award, and others.

“Cheryl has brought souls to Christ, modeled a Christian life, and dedicated her life to meeting the needs of her neighbors,” said Conway Mayor Barbara Jo Blain-Bellamy. Adamson’s “church without walls” philosophy, is lived out everyday through the various efforts of Palmetto Works and her home church; Palmetto Kids Music & Arts Academy (afterschool & summer camps), Palmetto Youth Leadership Academy, and CHOPS Produce (a farmer’s market with a healthy juicing bar) at 505 Church St. in Conway, much more.

As much as she’s been able to accomplish, the longing in her heart is to do much more and on a grander scale, as soon as the Lord provides.  She invites those with the means to consider helping in any way possible.
