Our Vision

Imagine what we could accomplish together. Depending on our actions, we determine the world that our children will inherit. Each achievement or contribution we make serves as a building block to lift our community to new heights. Together, let’s help our young men and women succeed in their professional aspirations while sharing secrets to success, creating jobs for local businesses, and educating children while preserving their innocence.

Our Staff

Reverend Cheryl Moore Adamson

The Truth Shall Set You Free

Freedom for all within her reach and circle of influence to prosper, freedom to share the Gospel, and the freedom to do good works in her community are the driving forces behind Rev. Cheryl Moore Adamson and her ministry Palmetto Works.

A lifelong resident of historic Conway, SC, founded in 1732, a small community outside of nearby bustling Myrtle Beach, Adamson knows the struggles of many of its residents, and has a particular heart for people in the African-American community.

As the founding pastor of Palmetto Missionary Baptist Church in Conway, for more than 15 years Adamson, along with a dedicated board and staff, has directed her focus on serving the needs of her community. She was among the first black students to graduate from Conway High School and also the University of South Carolina. After receiving a BS in Science, she went on to achieve a Masters in Health Education. She became South Carolina’s first HIV/AIDS educator, and eventually went on to study at Duke Divinity School, preparing her for a life of ministry work.

At Palmetto Works Community Development Corporation, a faith-based nonprofit organization, Adamson’s mission is to help children, adolescents and adults thrive in age and developmentally appropriate work.  She has received countless awards, accolades and recognition from community, statewide, and national leaders including the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development (SCACED) Civic Leadership Award, the McCall Racial Justice Trailblazer Award, and others.

“Cheryl has brought souls to Christ, modeled a Christian life, and dedicated her life to meeting the needs of her neighbors,” said Conway Mayor Barbara Jo Blain-Bellamy. Adamson’s “church without walls” philosophy, is lived out everyday through the various efforts of Palmetto Works and her home church; Palmetto Kids Music & Arts Academy (afterschool & summer camps), Palmetto Youth Leadership Academy, and CHOPS Produce (a farmer’s market with a healthy juicing bar) at 505 Church St. in Conway, much more.

As much as she’s been able to accomplish, the longing in her heart is to do much more and on a grander scale, as soon as the Lord provides.  She invites those with the means to consider helping in any way possible.

Reverend D. Katrina Reaves

Reverend Reaves serves with Palmetto Works Community Development Corporation as the program director for Palmetto Kids Music & Arts Academy’s afterschool enrichment program and the summer camp as well as the Palmetto Youth Leadership Academy for teens.
